Symbology: In the floor of the Chartres Cathedral we find perhaps the world's most famous labyrinth. It is called the thirteen turn labyrinth, because when walking it, one makes thirteen complete changes of direction before reaching the center. Like the thirteen lunar cycles of the solar year, the labyrinth demands thirteen different mini journeys within its total journey.

The labyrinth is a spiritual cosmology. Like the dream, the labyrinth bypasses the mental body (one does not have to make decisions while walking a labyrinth -- as different from a maze in which one has choices at various points). It therefore allows a deeper level of thought -- thinking with the heart. The labyrinth is a divine imprint which takes us to the center of our own spiritual journey, and then delivers us back to the mundane world, just as sleep and dreaming do.

13 TYPES OF DREAMS

Connie's new book (out May 7, 2002) discusses each of these types of dreaming in great detail. In addition to discussing the types of dreams, she describes the levels of spiritual development one needs to achieve to access each of these dreams. Call your favorite bookstore and order the book!

In September of 1992, I was on a spiritual retreat with several women. They had gone out into the wilderness for a private ceremony, while I settled in for a nap in the tipi. I thought I was recovering from a cold -- I really had pneumonia. My priority was to heal my body.

As I drifted out of physical self consciousness, I saw a neon white tornado spiraling toward my womb. There was no story line to this dream. In fact, there's nothing to tell except that when I awoke, I quickly grabbed my journal and wrote down an entire body of information.

I had been shown/told that there are 13 types of dreaming, roughly one for each of the 13 moons in a dreamer's year. They are not totally separated and distinguished (many dreams have aspects of more than one type). They are not definitive (there may be other types of dreaming for some people).

Following are the basic definitions of the thirteen types of dreams. If you want a more thorough discussion, and some examples, read The Woman's Book of Dreams. Also, in August of 2001 my new book, Dreams are Letters from the Soul, will be published. It discusses the thirteen types of dreams in much greater detail. Watch for it.
